A Mobile Computing Policy covers Laptop, PCs, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and lets not forget about the wonderful iphones. Employees should be instructed to not use their personal computing devices (iPhones)to access the Bank’s network unless specifically approved by the IT department or some committee/board level approval. Mobile devices should have proper AV software with a control management solution in place to prevent lost of data due to theft or loss. Laptop risk is easily mitigate with some form of hard-drive encryption.

ACH Best Practices
If you’ve worked with us lately, you know we are really digging into ACH procedures due to all the fraud going around lately. We’ve often been quoted, “The only real compromises and penetrations we’ve seen lately has been ACH fraud.” And other than the ever annoying debit card fraud, the aforementioned quote is true.

So we shot the ideas around the table about how to throw such an event. Identity Theft Task Force Report and How it Affects Community Banks
The President’s Identity Theft Task Force released their report and website on Tuesday with 31 recommendations to help reduce identity theft and fraud cases. This report has overarching recommendations such as consumer education and harsh punishments for criminals. I believe that some of these findings will eventually trickle down the grapevine and affect auditing guidelines of banking regulators. Most banks are doing many of the items listed on the report and GLBA audits should ensure that customer data is being adequately secured. But I did see some recommendations on the Task Force report that might create some extra work for banks……..

BLOGGING: Banker Style
When I visit banks week to week the topic of social media as a way to contact customers seems to always come up. I have read some strategic plans recently that state the bank wants to reach a younger demographic, but don’t really know how to do this. Starting a blog on your bank’s website sounds like the most logical way to educate and market to customers. Here, I will discuss how to start a blog, blogging ideas and security.
