Setting and measuring annual business goals is as old as business itself and we, too, like to set them each year. Last year was the first year in which we incorporated the idea of ‘impacting lives’ into our goals for the year. Looking back at the positive impact we made felt good for us all. So for this year, we wanted to continue that idea (with a few adjustments).
For 2013, we are taking the idea of impact to a more personal level. Each employee is selecting their mission based off their own passions or desires. In our company meeting this week, everyone announced their Mission for 2013. Here is the list of initiative that we will be working with:
- Brad: Help build a water well in a village in Africa through the organization Charity : Water.
- Roz: Create blankets for needy or homeless people through ‘Love Knots’ organization.
- Henry: Take a local Christian fellowship group called Wheeler Peak Cowboy Fellowship to the next level by increasing participation & attendance.
- Jim: Raise awareness in protection of oceans and beaches through the organization Surfrider Foundation.
- Heath: Teach children financial literacy awareness to help kids learn how to manage money thru an organization called Money Management International
- Dan: Support and raise awareness for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of North Texas.
- Peggy: Volunteer at Founders Plaza Nursing and Rehab Center that houses and cares for senior citizens.
- Courtney: Volunteer to various 501-3C organizations by doing security and risk awareness to help them grow their organizations.
- Gaye: Volunteer and raise money for Cornerstone Ranch – residential living and day program for special needs adults.
- Nik: Coach a local YMCA basketball and/or football pee-wee league team to teach character development of young children.
- James: Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity to help build a house for a Dallas family.
- Wade: Raise dollars for Wylie Prepratory Academy to improve their technology.
- Chrysti: Raise awareness and fundraising for childhood cancer, through groups like Truth365 & Cook’s Childrens Hospital.
- Matt: Volunteer monthly for a local SPCA to help the dogs and cats at the shelter.
As this is so core to our company, we see the missions as part of the job and believe it creates a work culture that aligns to the company we want to be for the next 100 years. I will be working with each employee this year to set a challenging goal and hold them accountable to progressing to that goal throughout the year by providing you all pictures, video, and blog post updates to feature their missions.
