Social engineering is a fairly new concept that has come into play the past couple of years in the financial industry. It is quickly becoming a requirement to do, at minimum, annual checks on your employees to ensure they are not providing private customer information to unknown people. But, what type of testing needs to be done?

A few weeks ago I went on a treasure hunt. Now, I’m a big time nerd, so what I was digging for may not be what you’d expect to encounter on one of these excursions. There were no pirates, no cannons, no hooks or peg legs. Nope just data. Lots of data. And while the results aren’t pure gold they are definitely valuable to us, our clients and the industry.

Since the beginning of The Garland Group, formerly DCS, Inc., we have always looked for opportunities to improve what we do for our customers. This is mainly a formality post but it was a necessary one that we thought we needed to make. As of December 31st, 2009, we will officially be ended support for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6. Many other vendors have already made the switch but we felt due to the conservative nature of our client base we would wait a wee bit longer than most. After doing a little research about IE6 and those that supported it, this article on Wikipedia captures it all:

Let me begin by introducing myself, I’m Dan Nerada and was very excited to accept a position with The Garland Group earlier this year. I come to The Garland Group with over twenty-five plus years internal bank audit experience. My years in banking consisted in working for one south Texas bank and two banks within the north Dallas area. During my banking years, I spent the entire time as an Internal Audit manager. Needless to say, switching from an internal bank auditor, to an external IT auditor has enlightened me to see both sides of the audit experience.
